False. Miami has some of the most beautiful girls in the world, bar-none. Now they may not all be Miami natives, but I assure you that most beautiful girls here are not tourists.

According to an interview with Slash, the song was written in the back of a rental van as they were on their way back from playing a gig in San Francisco . The band was in the back of the van, drinking and playing acoustic guitars when he came up with the intro. Los Angeles (the band's adoptive hometown) and its many contradictions (wealth, poverty, sunshine, crime, smog, etc). The Hollywood, CA scene in the 1980's where the band formed was at the time very seedy with homelessness and teen runaways a common fact on the streets. This may have come as a bit of a shock for a midwestern boy like Axl who thought tinseltown was all glam and glitter.
