As much as I’d like to be excited about this, 125mph is unacceptably slow in 2023. Trains in most of the developed world are doing 300kph+. Even Amtrack in New England goes faster than this.

It's fast for the US but this outlines a bigger issue. High speed rail has not and is not a priority. To your point, 125mph is not fast at all and falss into the "higher speed" category. Those speeds were touted back in the 90's when hsr in Florida was being kicked around. For those that remember, a X2000 prototype bullet train was showcased around the state to kick start the initiative.

I took a train from Edinburgh Scotland to Manchester England in July. It never got over 80-90mph and went through a lot of countryside. It was nice and comfortable and still better than Amtrack in the US (this wasn't an Amtrack FYI) but still, no real high speed over there from all the research I've done. That's more France, Asia, etc.

Even Amtrak only hits its highest speed for a brief period. "High speed" in US is hard to do as the rail lines go through highly populated areas.

What really matters is, is Brightline faster than driving?

And the answer is, YESSSS!

Especially from Palm Beach and now Boca down to Miami it's a life saver.

Btw I used to live in NE and Amtrak is a joke. Dirty and slow trains, constant vibration, dismal wifi, you cannot work at all.

The desired speed of 300 kph would be 186.4 mph. I would love to see Brightline go up to 150 mph, and even so, if Brightline were to go to just 125 mph, then that would mean over 2 hours between Miami and Orlando (3 hr 28 min driving; https://www.google.com/maps/dir/MCO+...6798!3e0?hl=en), 41-50 min between Orlando and Tampa (1 hr 35 min driving; https://www.google.com/maps/dir/MCO+...2688!3e0?hl=en), 1 hr 20-30 min between Orlando to Jacksonville (2 hr 18 min driving; https://www.google.com/maps/dir/MCO+...1838!3e0?hl=en), and between Miami and Jacksonville, up to about 3 hrs (4 hr 55 min driving; https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Miam...1838!3e0?hl=en).

According to worldwide standards, 150 mph is considered high speed for trains (241.4 mph), but for what Brightline is doing for FL, it's a great start and hopefully Brightline can be a model for the future of HSR in North America.

Anxious to see Brightline open the Orlando airport station - a great way for east coasters to fly out from Orlando.

I'm pretty sure one of these days, Sunrail will connect to OIA Intermodal Terminal, justas Trirail is soon to connect with Brightline in MiamiCentral Station.
