Not a tech firm but a major hedge fund with 1000 employees moving its corporate HQ to Miami. Not talking a regional office with 20-30 employees; corporate HQ. Nice win for Miami.

Beat me to it, but big move, obvious move considering it's a hedge fund, Ken Griffin is a Florida boy and a Republican. I think this is the most significant announcement for Miami during the covid era. Makes me wonder if the Illinois government will do the obvious thing governments do and throw subsidies/tax breaks to companies to ensure they stay.

This has to be a mistake. Miami is an overhyped backwater with little to recommend it. No big firm would move their HQ here!

You must have planted this false story!

Fake news!

WOW, are you kidding me!!!!! This is huge news. They’d been complaining about Chicago for years but I didn’t think they were seriously considering a move. It’s an amazing win for Miami and Florida.

Good one !

On a serious note, Miami should stick to what it does better--finance. Already an international finance hub with recent growing domestic hedge fund hub presence, Pretty Boy Suarez and company should spend more time courting more finance firms and less tech firms. The DNA make up of finance guys even blends in better with the Miami lifestyle than nerdified techies.

You’re right that they should try harder to court financial firms. Miami isn’t a sure thing for these companies, a lot are going to Palm Beach County. DoubleLine and Ark recently picked Tampa. Miami could probably have it all and it may be better if there were some consolidation rather than these firms being scatter across the state.

From what I’m reading Citadel is looking to develop a new site for its corporate HQ on Brickell Bay Drive—most likely the current vacant parking lot in between The Jade and Mark.
