I lived in Miami for almost 16 years and now in Homestead from the turnpike to the East which in my opinion are the best areas, and I can tell you it is more dangerous in Miami than here. This is my third year in the area and I can tell you it's pretty peaceful. Yes, certain spots are to be avoided but nothing dramatic. At first here was pretty boring but now the city is growing up slowly with new condos and houses sprouting around everywhere. Houses are selling in record time. There are theaters, recreational parks, public pools, gyms, beach area, national parks, everglades etc, and the famous car racing track Miami-Dade speedway. I've noticed something peculiar and it is that Ppl here like to put their heart on Halloween and Xmas decor around houses and for some reason don't ask me why, the area where I live feels like a nostalgic 80s vibe which I love it even when the area is not too old. On Sundays you can try different restaurants along Krome ave and Red-land area. Some old residents are not agree with the beautification and new condos because they say it's becoming another Kendall. Others think it's good because houses are increasing in value.

This is only the second time in my life I've heard anything about Homestead.
The first was back in 1992 when it was nearly wiped out by Hurricane Andrew.
How quickly people forget.

From a development standpoint Homestead will definitely see a boom over the next couple decades. Miami is essentially built out from a signle family home perspective. While there is a corrections in housing starting nationwide Miami is still holding strong as there just isn't enough supply. And there is much new supply on the horizon.

As a result over the coming decades single family homes will become a luxury for the few. Homestead is the only relatively close location with enough land to build a noticable amount of single family houses. I'm sure as the development happens the'll add entertainment and dining options making it a destination unto itself.

I liked Homestead but there is the nuclear reactor there powering Miami.
