A friend sent me some condo listings for Belle Isle and now I am completely intrigued. I am going to stay at the standard next week to check it out, but I was wondering if I could get an insider or resident view of the pros and cons of living there.

Thanks!

Can't really think of many cons to living there. The easiest way to get to the mainland is via the Venetian Causeway, so you'll have a toll to pay and the drawbridge can go up fairly often, but other than that it's a pretty darn good location.

I will be working on the west side of the Airport off LeJeune. How bad woud the commute be if I went north in Miami Beach to the Julia Tuttle causeway and straight across to the airport? Are there any hidden traffic points to look out for?

I don't know how the commute will be but be happy about the toll, it prevents all of the riff raff from driving through the area and causing trouble.

Anyways, the main topic of the article is the train itself. I think the Miami side would be impressibe, but I'm worried that the Orlando side will be the deal breaker for many would-be riders. Orlando International Airport is not exactly what people have in mind when they hear that the train takes you to "Orlando." Trains should have useful destinations, just like roads do.

Not too bad of a commute only problem spot is sometimes the interchange from the tuttle to 95 and 112. But it's usually not bad. I say 20-25min commute on average.

Thank you! Compared to some of the other commutes that I have heard about, that sounds like nothing!

I live on Belle and its the BEST place to live in my opinion. My office (when I actually have to go there) is the commute you are mentioning. Right now, the construction at the intersection of 195 and 95 can cause back-ups a bit but it's typically nothing alarming and can be avoided depending on the time of your commute. Once passed 95, the drive to the airport is pretty smooth until one gets to the 36th street exit. There is some slowdown because people often cut into the exit line at the last minute and sometimes block the airport traffic. All told, it's not a horrific commute and well worth living on (what I consider) the best located grouping of condos in MiamiDade.

You say that you will be working on the west side of the airport but LeJeune is on the East side of the Airport. If you are off LeJeune, that's not a bad commute from Belle.

When are you not commuting, you will surely appreciate living on Belle Island. It's walkable to Lincoln Rd and most everything on the NW side of South Beach. It's served by the SouthBeach local bus for 25 cents a ride and has a DecoBike station for bike commuting. I very rarely use my car to access anything in SouthBeach. The other great thing about Belle Island is that it has the advantages of living in SouthBeach without some of the headaches that come with being in the thick of it.

If you live on Belle, you can buy a yearly pass to travel the Venetian Cswy for (I think) $24. I haven't bought the pass in the last few years because I don't really go across the Venetian to the Miami Side enough to justify it. I usually take the Tuttle to places like Midtown for shopping, etc.

Feel free to PM me for more information.

Tigerllo did clarify in another thread that the job will be on the WEST side of the airport, NOT near Le Jeune.

How would this alternative commute compare to the Airport Expressway?

Alton Rd ---> MacArthur Causeway / 395 / Dolphin ---> Palmetto
