Blair is the stereotyped way of spelling the white, blue collar, Baltimorese pronunciation of the town. I've heard plenty of white Baltimoreans call it "B'Lair" and yes especially "B'Lair Rd."

That said, very few people have the dialect that think these days, and even those that do can "code switch" when among people don't speak the same way and force out that "Bel" part of the name.

I haven't checked prices in a loooong time, so someone else should weigh in, but . . . a housing budget of $2100 strikes me as maybe a bit optimistic for a pet-friendly house/townhouse in a good school district.

Yeah I’m finding that out the more I look in websites like Zillow and realtor.com. Maybe an apartment or a condo would be more feasible. Maybe one with a dog park.

It's doable in part of Baltimore Co and Harford.

Definitely not Howard (a 1br apartments cost that much) or the area of AA with good school, though.

Abington is where I'd look with that budget north of the city.

If you have a budget that's higher and you're searching north of the city, Abington might be a good place to consider.

It's Abingdon, not Abington. And, I never heard of Bel-Air pronounced Blair either. The Baltimore area has always had its own dialect, but none of this is reality.

I rarely recommend long commutes. A lot of people have little idea how much of a toll that 2 hours per day in your car drains your life and your money. All in the pursuit of what? A minor savings on the rent or mortgage? Well, you won't find it in Maryland, everything is expensive, especially anywhere with good schools.

$2,100 rent and with pets? Unrealistic pretty much anywhere. Hey, don't shoot the messenger, but that's just the reality.

I recommend living close to where you work. Take what you'd save on gas + beating the crap out of your car and instead apply that money toward housing. Then enjoy the time you get back into your day.
