Hello all,

I will be visiting Maine late next month. I will be staying in York and visiting family in OOB and Saco. I have no plans yet so thought I might ask the experts here what would be the "Must See" things on this trip. I will have at least 3 days to do anything we can come up with besides the family get togethers.

Marc - So Cal

Default Be Prepared to Fall in Love

Hey there, fellow So-Cal-er!
We also hail from this semi-arid concrete megalopolis, and I need to warn you to be prepared for a large scale assault on your senses as you cross over into Maine!
It's pretty much 180 degrees opposite of L.A./O.C., so I'd say, practice saying words like "Whoa, check that out", and "That's awesome"!
There are plenty of touristy areas around York, etc. which are very nice, but I'd say, also spend some time just heading out north & west and take a few long drives. Get out and hike a bit, too.
Have fun!

You'll be so close to Cape Elizabeth you should head out to see the Portland Head Lighthouse. Follow-up with some time in Old Port in downtown Portland.

Have some Maine-made beer at Gritty McDuff's in Old Port. Eat a lobster roll. Have some clam chowder (pronounced chowdah). See a piece of the Berlin Wall in Portland. Buy souvenirs. Take pictures. Come back and tell us all about it.

We actually have a section of the Berlin Wall in my hometown. It is at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. I will take plenty of pics and post them when I return.

Plan another vacation for autumn and take in the beauty of the changing leaves. Nothing like it and postcards can't really capture the grandeur of it all. Of course, if you make it back in the autumn, stock up on Maine apple cider to take home with you.

If you do return in the Fall, just be sure to only purchase a one-way ticket, as you probably will not want to return back to SoCal!

I do plan on that at retirement time. I lived in OOB when I was 4 years old and returned back for the first time last summer at 51 years old, that is why I am returning so soon again. I also have a lot of family in the Saco/Biddeford area.
