We have been very happy with our healthcare in Bangor. I have extremely good insurance, and every hospital, clinic or doctor are all 'in-network'.

That is good to hear. I plan on making a trip there in a few months to check things out.

The Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor is the #2 hospital in the state and is pretty advanced in terms of their capacities. The #1 is the Maine Medical Center in Portland. Both of these hospitals have a certified primary stroke center, and an advanced cardiac catheterization lab, so they are capable of treating life-threatening acute events on-site for the top two killers - heart attack and stroke. The MMC also has a level 1 trauma center, while EMMC has a level 2 trauma center.

You should come up and visit sometime.

I recommend that you avoid the tiny tourist towns along the coast.

But those tiny tourist towns, especially Ogunquit, are beautiful, all the restaurants are wonderful.

I think I will come visit the area in the next month or two as I want to see what winter is like. Some of my bigger concerns are things like finding a bet office office nearby accepting new animals, finding a new care provider accepting new patients, having locals accept us for jobs since I am quite certain our accent would be so different. It seems like Maine has kind of high property taxes too. I was surprised at how bad they say the radon problem is there as well.

In Maine the lines that define town boundaries are unmoveable. So if an incorporated city wants to grow, it can not expand its boundaries. In all other states a city can absorb a neighboring small town, but here to increase the number of residential tax-payers a city must do things to get people to immigrate. Sometimes increasing the size of the police department might be enough to increase the number of residents. Sometimes improving infrastructure like roads, municipal water/ sewer, or Rec facilities, or building new a school.

In each case, for a city to hire more employees they must start by increasing taxes.

Once a city has filled all of its allotted land space, to attract more residents it must compete with the other nearby cities. [crime rate, infrastructure, new school buildings, and recreational programs]

The majority of Maine consists of Unorganized Townships [UT] with extremely low taxes. But since the UTs have no revenue they can not advertise. To support a chamber of commerce or a tourism board, a city must first have surplus tax revenue.

Yes, a radioactive gas that seeps up from the ground into basements. The approved remediation process is to ventilate your basement and move that gas outside of your home. It may be easier to simply never put a bedroom in your basement.

Wherever you land, just see if doctors are accepting new patients. This is a HUGE issue for newer residents and worth thinking about beforehand. Best of luck.

Maine has two different parts, above Bangor and below Bangor. Above Bangor is uhmmm... less advanced.
I know Montana, and Maine is very different, not at first, not at first sight, but Maine has black flies (look that up), and other insects, Maine is technically the beginning of Appalachia; a lot of residents are related. You will always be an outsider.
All the above apply mostly to rural living. If you stay in urban environment (and below Bangor) it could feel like Bozeman.
