My HOA is for a 12 unit condo building. It is much better than a traditional housing association, and there are a lot less rules. For my wife and I, it was an easy and cheap way to get non-rental housing in Portland 11 years ago. We are in transition currently to the western mountains, and look forward to not having to deal with anybody but ourselves.

It's not the fees, its like you said Sub, I could not live in a place that says my fence has to be between this height and this height, that I can't fly a sports team flag out along with Old Glory, that I have to apply for HOA approval for any sort of remodel or exterior fixtures.
I agree I will not live anyplace that has HOA. My mom bought a townhouse and they had an HOA fee, I can't remember how much but it was very inexpensive. They recently sold it and got $30,000 over the asking price.

Just noticed this 600 sqft house in the Thomaston area.

$210,000 price tags seems a little absurd to me though.

The article says in 2018 it was worth $58,521. Now they want $210,000

I think someone saw this housing bubble and wants to take advantage before house prices drop to normal.

It was built in 2019, so the $58k must be the property value alone, still a pretty hefty price for less than an acre.

Oops I missed the build date.

Don't be surprised if someone buys the 600 sq ft house near Thomaston and pays more than the asking price. Some real estate websites include how long a property has been on the market. I looked but didn't find this info. Does anyone know?

'shudder" it's perfectly legal but could easily be a huge problem.

Yes, it's on less than a 1/4 acre of land, and that 600 sq ft is including that loft area that has the low ceiling, and that you ascend to with those funky stairs, and it's in one of the most reasonably priced mid-coast towns.
