Nine hotels will open in the next six months, adding one thousand rooms. Most of the new hotels will be located off Interstate 75. The one thousand new rooms doesn't even include the downtown Marriott or a Hilton Suites Hotel being built off Bass Road

Road improvement program in Bibb winding down

SARDIS CHURCH ROAD

The plan: Widen Sardis Church Road east of Skipper Road and extend it to Ga. 247 at a proposed interchange. Typical sections will consist of two lanes in both directions with bicycle lanes, sidewalks and a raised median. Rights of way currently are being purchased.

Cost: $87 million

Let date*: Fall 2008 for the interchange, spring 2009 for the extension

WESTERN LOOP

The plan: Alter the design of Bass, Foster, Tucker, Heath and Fulton Mill roads from Riverside Drive to Eisenhower Parkway. Bass Road would be widened from two lanes to four with a median, bike lanes and sidewalks from Riverside Drive to Zebulon Road. From there, the expansion shrinks, alternating between three and two lanes. The project awaits funding from the Georgia Department of Transportation before it can move forward.

Cost: $80 million

Let date: Unknown

FOREST HILL ROAD

The plan: Widen Forest Hill Road between Vineville Avenue and Wimbish Road to four lanes with a raised grass median and sidewalks. Widen Forest Hill Road between Wimbish Road and Northside Drive to three lanes with sidewalks and a center turn lane. Mediation between Moreland Altobelli (the county's representative) and local activists has failed. Moreland Altobelli continues to acquire rights of way.

Cost: $25 million

Let date: 2010

JEFFERSONVILLE ROAD

The plan: Widen Jeffersonville Road to five lanes including a center turning lane. Reconstruction would begin at Emery Highway and extend eastward to Emery Road. Millerfield Road at Jeffersonville Road also would be widened. Environmental documents are making their way through the approval process. Cost: $28 million

Let date: No earlier than 2013

OCMULGEE EAST BOULEVARD

The plan: Widen Weaver Road to four lanes with a median and sidewalks from Ocmulgee East Boulevard to just past White Elk Springs Road. Improve intersections and approaches on Ocmulgee East Boulevard and widen the railroad overpass southbound. Add turn lanes, resurface and re-stripe around Interstate 16.

Cost: $11 million

Let date: October 2008

NORTHWEST PARKWAY

The plan: Widen Park Street to four lanes divided by a median. Beginning at the intersection of Park Street and Napier Avenue, build a new, four-lane road with median to connect to Log Cabin Drive. Currently in preliminary planning stages.

Cost: $30 million

Let date: Unknown

*The let date is when bids are expected to open for construction.

Mayor I see theres a lot going on there. My daughter wants to move there and she has two kids (twins girls). She is very quiet and tend to stay to herself. Shes trying to find a job there before she comes in the healthcare field. Is there good public transportation until she get a car. Is crime high there if so what parts? I would consider coming there too but these are some of my concerns too. We want to know what areas should she avoid and which should she consider. Give me your totally honest feedback because you speak so highly of macon but I haven't heard about some of the badd.

Macon a is nice thriving city which is experiencing tremendous growth. Macon does have some not so good areas as well but not as bad as most people on here make it seem them to appear. North Macon is transforming into the premier area somewhat on the scale of a mini Buck head. South Macon off I-75/Hartley Bridge is nice but there is a lot of growth as well, East Macon/Jones County has a lot of nice areas too. Downtown is becoming a good area for living to with all the residential growth as well. The areas to watch out for is the South Macon areas the Houston Ave, The Peach Orchard and Rocky Creek area; also Central Macon around the Unionville and lower/central parts of Napier Ave.. Other than that you should enjoy Macon… Plenty of Shopping choices and a Lot more on the way, there’s 2 Malls one enclosed and one open air….. if there is anything else you would like know about I will more than happy to fill you in ……
