Look, King_9.5, you can have what ever opinion you wish, but do not try to define mine. Other than Athens, my girlfriend and I have in fact visited all the cities I mentioned for the express reason of enjoying the local nightlife.
In regards to Athens, well, she traveled up there during the week and we enjoyed a night on the town on a Thursday evening. In my opinion, way better than what Macon has to offer.
In regards to Columbus, well, I enjoy micro-brews and The Cannon is a pretty cool place. We spent some time like right next door at an Irish pub and then she heard about some dance club across the street and we ended the night there. Three bars in less than 100 steps. In my opinion, way more than what Macon has to offer.
Augusta? We got comped a room at the Marriott downtown and spent hours bar-hopping along the main drag there, is it Broadway, perhaps Main? 15 plus bars within walking distance. Nothing in Macon can compare, in my opinion.
As you said, Savannah speaks for itself.
Brunswick/Islands? There are three pretty cool bars on Jekyll, four or so on St.Simons and a couple right downtown Brunswick. I like to golf so this area has a an added bonus. For me, this area trumps Macon hands down.
We have even tried Macon before. Went downtown, did not stay long. Ended up watching an all out bar brawl at some place called Rivals or something. Six cops showed up, pretty much ended the night. We won't be doing Macon again.
And that's my opinion .... like it or friggin not.
I really could not care any less about what you think, for the record.
