Thought I would start this thread to post about positive development news(or not so positive) going on around the state. Despite the negative reputation this state is home and I want to see it grow and prosper. Also there are a lot of positive developments that have been going and I think it’s time we focus on that instead the bashing all the time. We know this state has problems. Anyways, I’ll start this thread with the census numbers to begin this decade.

https://apnews.com/article/census-20...dd44d475191434

The latest U.S. census data released Monday showed Louisiana had more than 4.6 million people in the latest 2020 tally, about 124,000 more people than in 2010. The 2.7% growth rate was far short of the 7.4% population increase seen across the United States.

2010 Population : 4,533,372
2020 Population: 4,657,757

Slow growth but I believe it was faster than the previous decade. I’m hoping this is a better decade for the state and growth continues and accelerates. How the state bounces back from the pandemic will be important. Oil and gas industry is not this states’ saving grace and it’s time that the economy started to diversify.

Great news for the New Orleans area

Louisiana Space Campus

https://canalstreetbeat.com/new-50-a...r-new-orleans/

“Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards announced this week that the State of Louisiana has signed an agreement with NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility to create the Louisiana Space Campus, a dedicated 50-acre business park within NASA’s 829-acre site in New Orleans.”

Didn’t know NASA had such a big presence here to be honest. This could be great for the region and New Orleans East. Also some of these developments have been announced for a little bit but I didn’t see them posted here so will be catching up on some developments that may have been missed.

Amazon has been busy around the state.

A facility in West Baton Rouge Parish
https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_ro...66c24adbc.html

In addition to the huge facility taking over the Cortana Mall area.
https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_ro...22c42832e.html

The facility is expected to create over 1000 jobs and possibly up to 3500 when all is set and done from direct and indirect jobs. That area of Baton Rouge needs something to revitalize the area and this could be it.

Thankfully, these places will provide some needed jobs. We do need jobs statewide.

I'm glad Lafayette is doing pretty well despite the energy industry facing such an uncertain future. Don't know how that's going to turn out.

Default 80 million dollar Virgin Hotel

The tourism industry in New Orleans seems to be rebounding.

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...bc8daa2a7.html

“In another sign of revival in the city's hospitality sector, the nearly completed Virgin Hotel New Orleans said Thursday that it has started taking bookings for stays starting on Labor Day of this year.”

Rendering of what the hotel will look like below.

Sounds pretty cool! And a local startup at that.
