Some great economic news for the New Orleans area!

Default Aldi expanding into Louisiana

Aldi grocery chain is expanding into Louisiana. They are building 3 stores in the Acadians region. 2 in Lafayette and 1 in New Iberia. They are also building a number of stores in the New Orleans area.

That's good news. I wish we had Aldi here in SBC. Longview (Tx) has them. I had heard that we couldn't get them because milk prices are fixed in Louisiana and their milk sold for less. Ours has (or had) a minimum price where it could be sold at. Thank those agri commissioners for that. But anyway that's good news.

Two articles about the possibility of passenger rail between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. This would be a game changer for the region and state.

I'm happy its being proposed but I wish a more statewide system could be built to help connect south Louisiana. Particularly Lafayette, the northshore, and Houma/Thibodaux.

Default Lafayette Highrise Tower Proposal

A local developer is planning to build two 20-story high rise towers in downtown Lafayette in what could be the biggest development that area has had in decades.

Developer Cliff Guidry with Guidry Land Development unveiled his plans for the $140 million, 240,000-square-foot Seven16 Lafayette Tower, which will be located at 716 Lafayette St. next to the federal courthouse, to local commercial real estate agents on Wednesday.

This would be awesome if it came to fruition. Developer says it will be 260 feet tall but if there is enough interest it could go as high 360 feet tall. Something like this is needed to draw more interest downtown as the city has been trying to draw more residents to that area. A tentative start date is set for early 2022. Fingers crossed!

Exciting! I just bought a cheap fixer-upper six blocks from there. We are moving into it in a couple of months after we do some renovations. It needs everything.
