My retirement income can no longer sustain the taxes in Houston. I'm planning to relocate by year's end. I was born in New Orleans, northern Louisiana is on my list of possibilites. There's a church I would like to attend in Alexandria. That's important to me. I'm older and looking for slow, quiet, sustainable living. However I heard there's a problem with flooding in Alexandria. Are there any best areas and areas to avoid...

I've only been to the area a couple times, but I remember in town is pretty low-lying. It didn't rain when I visited, but I did see a lot of low spots that could accumulate water during torrid rain. Also avoid areas along the river.
