Took this yesterday with my iPhone 4 at the Lafayette airport just prior to the daily deluge...

Flying roughly over I-10 westbound looking down at I-49 heading north toward Opelousas. For decades, this area has been ignored by developers. Not sure why, but as my dad put it, I-10 has served as some sort of psychological barrier for development to the north. Never understood it as north Lafayette has some of the nicest and prettiest land. So it's gratifying to see so much residential infill as evidenced in this photo...

I'm curious as to what type of aircraft you fly?

Rockwell 690B Turbo Commander. That photo was taken by a passenger in the most rearward seat. In the photo below, you can partially see how large that window is. Probably the largest passenger window that's certified to 31,000'.

Nice picture. My office is located pretty close to the runway and as a fan of aviation, I enjoy looking out of my big office window as aircraft land and take off.

Sounds like my kind of office. I'm guessing you're somewhere in the Kaliste Saloom / Pinhook area. Probably a million square feet of office space in that part of town near the end of runways 4R and 4L.

If I think about it, I'll rock the wings to say hello next time I'm landing that direction.

I can't see planes taking off and landing, but from our building off of Pinhook planes fly literally RIGHT OVER the building and it is ear-shattering loud sometimes. Can get pretty scary if you are not prepared for it.

LFT gets its fair share of military planes on training flights whose seemingly sole purpose is to convert jet fuel into noise. LOTS of noise. NASA T-38's add quite a bit, as well. And you are always made well aware when an afterburner gets lit by one of these. Simply put, it rocks your world. But even some of the smaller jet trainers with those pure turbojet engines that just screech the hell out of the natural and tolerable decibel ranges our ears can handle, they come occasionally and do their business. Always fun when they head back to home base...

Of course, this all coming from a pilot of one of the few planes which REQUIRE line service personnel to use hearing protection when parking me.

Here is a nice view of Lafayette from the sky. The approach into LFT starts at 3:44.

Notice the beautiful greenery covering most of the area.

Maybe I misread your post, but are you saying that its basically gratifying to see beautiful land get eaten up by generic suburbia? If so, why would you think suburban sprawl is a good thing?
