Breaux bridge near Lafayette is heart of Cajun country. Might also want to visit nearby ST. Martinsville to see the St. Martin Detour church the first catholic church in US. Also see the Evangeline oak on the Bayou Tech that inspired Longfellow's poem; Evangeline. I'd also cross the 30 miles cause way in morning to see the sunrise over the swamp ;its beautiful :MIO. its just east of Lafayette. Moulatt's restaurant is no long open but try Prejean's. if you check you might be able to visit Scared Heart's girl's academy west of Lafayette built in 1830. you will feel like your in the old south as its very interesting. You can also visit some of the remaining mansions including one between Lake Charles and Lafayette which they copied the staircase for Gone With the Wind. Further east near new Orleans is Myrtle's plantation said to be the most haunted in La.

Now if you feel like sleeping late, Ruffino's On The River in River Ranch opens at 4:30. I haven't been to either the Baton Rouge or Lafayette Ruffino's, so you may know more about them than I since you live in BR.

Hopefully, you're watching LSU on TV and not looking at a drive back from Houston tonight!
Didn't get to make it.

And yes I was watching on TV!

Bump...we're going to be in Cajun country the week of Thanksgiving. Anyone have suggestions what to do that week (special events/festivals?), or will a lot of places be closed? We will be staying in Lafayette as our jumping off point.
