I plan to retire and move to LA and I'm single. Which is more better buying a townhome/condo or a house? I have one kid but not living with me?

That's a big question. Depends on what you want - independence and lawns to mow or a communal life with less upkeep.

I think of a condo as an apartment that's a lot harder to get out of if you wind up with terrible neighbors.

We recently traded our single family home for a condo. Our house and a huge yard that required a lot of maintenance and both neighbors on each side of us had barking dogs. Now we live yard free and barking free! The HOA fines you if your dog barks too much, which is fine with me. We've got a pool, jacuzzi and no worries!

well depends what you are looking for condos you don't own the land; as for town homes and homes alone you do. Right now its a great time to buy here in LA. You should probably go with a town home or a single home stay out of condos.

A strong HOA is a good thing.

My mom lives in a townhouse and pays $125 mo
for HOA.. which covers the gardner and water bill.
There is only 4 units for the association which is great .
The bigger the condo / townhouse complex , the bigger the
Association fee. She likes it because she is older and
can't do the gardening anymore like she did at her house
before . I personally like owning my own home ! No one
to tell you you can't do something different if you feel like
it and I have my space .
Check REALTOR.com - Real Estate Listings & Homes For Sale or get in touch with an
agent to find some forclosure properties... this is a good
time to find one of those !

I would say: If you have an active lifestye and don't have
the time to put into a house then go for the townhouse / condo.

What I'm factoring in to is that I will be retired, but plan to start a second career. Who has the best townhomes?

I really don't know who has the best ...
just gotta get out there and look I guess !
What's best for one person, might not be the
best for someone else ...

I can't remember if you said you were in
So CA or not.. but Burbank and the surrounding
cities are a good place to start looking !

Good Luck !
