I substitute teach in Merrick, and didn't hear anything about Calhoun H.S. I was asked to teach there yesterday but couldn't go. I live in Lindy and did sub there in M.S. a few years ago. I would believe that the schools are being pressed with some huge decisions as to whether they should close or not - they are very punctual with tight schedules that include graduations, Regents reviews and school vacations that they want to begin on time because many teachers have planned travel arrangements. I would think, though, that they would definitely close if there were a concern for the welfare and health of their school populations. I am sure they were asked to thoroughly clean over the weekends.
I just found out that there are about 400 kids absent from POB JFK High school. That's one quarter of the student population. I called the school nurse and she said most of them have type A influenza.
Exactly. The plain old "regular" flu, and it's a doozy too.
It's sort of amazing how much hysteria the swine flu has caused, and yet Type A is glossed over like it's a cold. And it's not.
My wife and I are both home with the flu this week. My wife freaked out from a high temp on Sunday and went to the ER who swabbed her and determined she has Influenza A. They were selling us on the Swine Flu but it's BS...Influenza A is NOT Swine Flu - we have the regular old school flu and lots of water, tylenol (alternated with Motrin) and we are almost 100% again - just hope my 1 year old doesn't get anything but so far he is fine.
Unfortunately its pretty hard to maintain a personal space in certain places, like the bus, so I just wear a mask.
