Check, I'm sure the HoJo is now a diner or something similar. The last time I flew out of MacArthur was about a year ago, and as I came out of the airport I know I checked out that corner and muttered something about really missing the HoJo ice cream (and the weekly all-you-can eat fried-clam specials, too).

Pidget, tell MrsP that I sure do remember: ShoeKingSam, Friendly Frost, ChowChowCup, Matinecock Dairy Farm, Davega's, OC Road as 2 lanes (what a mess while they were expanding it!!), Hempstead Speedway, Lollipop Farm, and Dix Hills as rural (great place to sled!). But please tell her that Dairy Barn is still around!

Rachael84, I used to go to Ben Franklin Stores too!

Yes, the Dairy Barn lives on!

I understand that many people have fond memories of their childhood, but what do people in North Carolina reminisce about? I imagine something like...

"Do you remember that empty field of grass before they put up the Wal-Mart?"

Well, if these forums are any indication, a fair percentage of them are "ex-pat" Long Islanders who reminisce about the same things that we do, LOL!

Ouch, let's not allow a really enjoyable thread to accidentally morph into anything else (I've seen that happen a few times here ) ...

So, moving right along....

....Someone else mentioned the arena in Commack, but does anyone remember the ice hockey team that used to play there? The Long Island Ducks. Minor-league but incredible fun to watch (this was long before the NY Islanders came into existence).

Remember "The Battle of the Bands"?

And when one of the deadliest insults we kids could throw at each other was "You fink!!!!"

[quote=Check123;377355]Tom,

Which Channel, what town?

"Someone to the electrical counter to make keys" .... I hated making f***ing keys. And whose bright idea was it to combine the electrical department and making keys?

Hauppauge, and our key machine was in Hardware.

and my brother-in-law's Dad was a NY Duck

How about Filene's Basement and Swenson's Ice Cream.

I remember a shoe store in Huntington Village that gave out balloons and comic books.

Anyone used to listen to WLIR (WDRE) ?

What's the name of that bar/club in Huntington? (You know the one, LOL) Probably long gone.
I remember Chevy's...with the actual car parts all around the bar!

I listened to WLIR. What was the name of the place (I think it was in Farmingdale). It played LIR music 1 or 2 nights and regular dance music the rest of the week. I can't for the life of me remember the name!
