Not sure of the prices but get 2 zones. I have one zone from the previous owner for a 3k square foot house. I cool the entire house when I’m using one room. I grew up with individual window units and I loved how cold I could get individual rooms. Just something to think about.
I don't know what the rules are in NY, but in GA we don't need an electrician to install HVAC. We are certified to do it ourselves.
See if you can get a quote for a Fujitsu package unit with zone units. Fujitsu is much cheaper than Daikin and easier to work on if something goes wrong.
Other than that, in your area, yeah, that unfortunately sounds about right. Prices have skyrocketed in the past few years. We've lost customers briefly because they think we are overcharging, and then they come back when they find out we are one of the cheapest in the area because we don't have much overhead and we don't advertise.
I just received the following quote for AC unit (does not include electrician fees)
1. Rheem/ Ruud central ac 1.5 ton 13 seer $17K
2. Daiken Fit high efficiency 16 seer $20k.
I just started shopping and this was the first quote I receive from a contractor which includes pre-season discounts.
Has anyone installed central a/c recently. Does this seem reasonable? Yikes goodness gracious.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
Wow. Those sound like crazy quotes. I'm in Rochester and just had an entire brand new whole house system installed, including duct work two years ago. The price was about $18,000 for 90k, 94% efficient furnace and 3 ton A/C. I don't remember what seer.
I don't recommend the split systems. They are loud, look ugly and you end up with piping and wires on your exterior.
gee, I paid $7,500 for a combination heating and a/c unit only 5 years ago. All fees were included.
That was then. Most likely it was a friend of a friend doing it on the side, or a small contractor. They made about $2000. A fair deal all around. Prices are much higher now

No way did you get that without some sort of special inside deal. And why would a replacement system need ductwork? Also was that just for the condenser?
