I have heard Smithtown (school district but perhaps its much of the town) has high taxes and when I was looking at Commack a few years ago, they seemed kind of high too. Hauppauge was known for being lower but I have not looked there in a while.
Commack RE taxes in Town of Smithtown are mostly higher than the small portion of Commack in Town of Huntington.
Hauppauge RE taxes tend to be lower in general (Commercial tax base).
I lived in both Commack & Hauppauge but it's been a while. Loved Commack but I didn't have kids then so can't say anything about the schools.
