Drives me crazy when news reports say “Santos a Republican in Long Island”. He’s in NY but on Long Island.
Ha, you remind me of how I spotted a troll on some thread attacking Long Island. He said all of Long Island was a giant flat Levittown.
When I confronted him and said that parts of Long Island had hills, forests or farms, and the beaches are actually pretty good, he was like he lived IN Long Island for years and he never saw any.
As soon as he said IN Long Island, I knew he was lying, lol.

There are plenty of native born and bred LI’ers that say “in” LI.
Sad, but true.
As someone who never lived there but my wife is from Long Island, I will tell you that this drives me crazy as well. I'm not even from there and it irritates me!
I think it’s a grammar issue and thanks to the good sisters of St Dominics I pride myself on good grammar. Things like improper usage of their and there also to, too and two etc just irritates me.

Ditto.
