Easier said then done though there aren't a lot of them and many would have to go out of their way to go to one. The "it ruins the paint" really only applies to black and dark colored cars (where you can actually see the swirl marks).

I wash my cars myself. Car washes brushes accumulate all sort of particles. I usually use a new sponge every few times I was my cars.
Only in wintertime will I use a car wash if it’s really needed to get rid of salt if there is any.

I remember car wash user to me $5-11 back in 90s. No way I’m paying 25 + for a car wash. That’s lunacy.

Theirs does not use rubber "flappers", they are all wide cloth spinners and foam squirters, with a soft rotating cloth and foam drying wheel along with the moving dryers so I rarely have spots. They do a great tire shine as well.
