Here in Delaware we just had the plastic bag elimination go into effect in July of 22, while NY is in their 3rd year of it. We started to discuss things that used to be free that are now either charged for or eliminated.
Here are a few:
When I was a kid, NY Telephone used to come to your house and switch out a phone. All you had to do was call, they provided a new phone at no charge and wired it too.
If you went to a show at say Westbury Music Fare - or Jones Beach you picked up physical tickets - now you print your own (your paper and Ink, if you don't trust a phone) and there is a convenience fee added. Ditto for sporting events.
Airline tickets used to be paper in triplicate - now mostly digital.
Bags at stores used to be free, now they are a 5¢ charge if you don't bring your own.
Most stores use to deliver for free - now there is a charge.
How about what else we now are paying for that in the past we did not. I have a few more, but let's see what you come up with.
radio , tv , water , sewer , internet didn’t exist .
my ham radio license used vti be free .
college when i went was free
Plus all the stuff you subscribe to thinking you will cancel it and never do. I just finally sat down and cancelled a bunch of stuff and am saving about $50-$75/month, not going to be rich off it but I'd rather it in my pocket than someone else's.
Banking: Some banks that used to offer free checking accounts and debit cards now charge fees for certain services, such as overdraft protection, paper statements, and ATM usage.
