Like it or not the time for voting against the debt ceiling is WAAAAAY past. Government spending is now "too big to fail", we need to keep feeding the beast. All government spending, fed, state, local is ~40% of GDP. Cutting gov spending will result in a guaranteed recession and 20% stock market haircut. Cut gov spending while simultaneously cutting interest rates to increase private GDP, we'll end up with 10% inflation.

Voting for or against the debt ceiling really isn't voting for or against future spending. It is voting for or against paying for past obligations or defaulting on past obligations The vote on voting for or against paying past debts is being used as a tool to vote on other measures as well which is when the deal and compromises come in.
