haha yes three times a week! way back home no rush it’ll just be my mornings that are crazy
If aren’t in contract yet depending on what you’re looking for. (Unless you desire to only be in commack schools) You should be looking in Melville and parts of deer park and Wheatley heights for houses also. You will def find a better price point in Wheatley and DP than Dix hills and wheatly has some bigger homes on 1/2 acre lots. The sliver of farmingdale also, may find a nicer home these are all in the HHH school district same as 95% of Dix hills.

Melville would be, especially the very western portions. Farmingdale area In HHH is super close to the lie but houses are rarely on the market there as you can walk to the lirr. Wheatley and DP are prob a few min further. All are going to be within 10 min. I do the BK commute a few times a year to bk heights area.

How is your commute to brooklyn the few times you do it?
How is your commute to brooklyn the few times you do it?
I leave at 930 and make sure to be headed home before 130. So I beat most of the traffic. When I did it 2-3x a week I took the train to Atlantic and walked 10 min.
So I work in downtown brooklyn and for the past few weeks I have been doing tons of house hunting on the island including taking commutes back and forth to determine how it would be getting to and from Brooklyn.
I’ve decided to finally settle down in Dix hills and commute three times a day into work. I know I’m crazy but i’ve talked to a few people who do it and they say over time it becomes manageable.
The houses in Nassau just weren’t cutting it for me and the backyards were so small( my budget was 950k btw). I was getting so much more worth for my money in suffolk county.
To all the people who are having a hard time deciding between Nassau and Suffolk and if you work in NYC just know that you are not alone and it’s definitely a tough decision but I did what i felt was right for me my money and my kids lol.
Thanks for listening everyone! Any comments welcome!
Congrats, I think. Or maybe not.
Yes it's true Suffolk offers more space typically vs. Nassau and is certainly a quality of life upgrade over a hellhole like Brooklyn.
But did you do your due research on how LI overall is trending demographically and with crime? Not good. Not good at all. Gonna be very few desirable places to live in 10 to 15 years. You think MS 13 is bad now, wait until then!

I think the same could be said for quite a few areas no matter where you go. Who knows how the trend will shift 10 to 15 years from now? None of us have a crystal ball seeing into the future.
As for Suffolk, a couple of other districts that come to mind are North Babylon and Deer Park, in terms of school districts with good academic metrics and a diverse student population.
You also have an area like in Suffolk County such as southern Greenlawn/western Elwood, which has a substantial/even high black middle class presence that runs together and is split between the Harborfields, Elwood and South Huntington SD's. https://www.city-data.com/forum/65191263-post1589.html
So, from what I'm sensing from this and your other threads, this may be some information that is relevant towards what you are really looking for. There are other districts that could work as well.

C. Large "Spanish Conquistador" black wrought iron sconces with ruby red glass and kelly green felt torch light fixtures.
I nearly spit out my cawfee. This almost describes my parents Massapequa living room in the mid 70's, or as I called it The Medieval Torture Chamber! Red carpets, heavy furniture with gold velvet upholstery A Spanish Conquistador holding a wrought iron lamp (nicknamed Don Quixote), gold veined floor to ceiling mirrors on one wall, faux beams and stucco. The cherry on the Sundae was the red velvet canvas with a drizzled tar galleon, set in a heavy dark frame.

OMG...
I was afraid the Architect and Interior designer may have escaped the bounds of Dix Hills and done work in other areas....
Well if you ever become nostalgic for that style (not that you would), it turns out Gx89 was right. 950K only gets you one of the original Dix Hills "Beauties", complete with the big wooden shag shingles, roman columns, etc..
Can't totally replicate your childhood home, but check out this listing on Realtor.com and peruse the photo's. Note the dated dark wood cabinets, lime green cooktop exhaust fan and cheap "scalloped" dark stained faux wood beams in the kitchen/dining room, the gold linoleum in the foyer, and the furniture and mirrors in the living room.
No portrait of Elvis on black velvet above the fireplace though, seller might include it but I think it's extra...
