Am about to call Petro for the annual song and dance for the annual oil contract.

Last year my price was $2.10 per gallon with a free maintenance contract.

Has anyone gotten a price lately?

We were at $1.99 last year with Frank Bros, this year it went to $2.19. The maint contract was 149. We are still getting used to dealing with oil after years of natural gas. When you get a free contract, does that include a yearly tuneup or just delivery?

I don't understand why people lock-in rates. My friend locked in & his rate one year. It was HIGHER than ANY bill (per gallon) I ever received for the season. .50 More per gallon on average. Almost an EXTRA $100 every fill up.

I'm happy with it fluctuating so I "Dollar Cost Average " my price over time/fill-ups. Just so I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off by locking in .

Spanky25, I'm glad that it works out for you, but I can't understand why you would feel a need to question something that wasn't asked.

I can't speak for anyone other than myself.... we locked in for peace of mind. Too much in this world to worry about as it is, having a contract so I don't feel that I have to worry about having oil in my tank during the middle of winter, regardless of what else may occur allows me to sleep a little better at night.

Agreed. I used to play the waiting game of when to buy Oil. It is alot nicer when you have a fixed price and auto delivery. Does it cost more? Sure, but peace of mind is worth it for some.

Meenan includes a free tuneup.

Their contract is also their platinum coverage which is very competitive. I had Slomin's top coverage a couple years ago and that basically covered nothing...when my circulator pump and expansion tank needed replacing they wanted to charge $600 (the parts cost around $50 total.) With Meenan I've been much happier with the parts they cover.

Plus like I said the contract was free.

Additionally with the rise in prices lately, I dont feel one bit bad about having my ceiling price that I paid.

Isn't the title "The annual heating oil thread". .?????

I do have Auto-Delivery with the SAME company now for 15 years. However, I just don't lock-in my rate. It's COD which is DEFINITELY cheaper than any lock-in rate I was EVER quoted from my present oil co & cheaper than my.friends (mentioned above) "lock-in" rate, who happens to use the same exact company/same town. The bill has to be paid sometime.

I do have a service contact too. It's $200 per year along with an annual cleaning.

None of you have the ability to convert to natural gas? I am so glad not to have oil for heat.

No gas hook up in my area. A while back I inquired. The gas company said "well, if you can get 30+ Homes in your area to convert, it might be worth it for us to run the lines"

I didn't know I was partners with the gas company.
