I've seen threads from 2005-2009 saying that it was a really rough area but seeing it's been about six years from then, I was hoping maybe it had shaped up a bit. I have two kids (5,2) so it really wouldn't be ideal to buy a condo in an area with heavy meth use :/ thanks for any advise!
Ridge itself is a quiet little hamlet, mostly horse property and a decent amount of wilderness. Strathmore, however... crime, poverty, drug dealing, and gang activity are conveniently located within Strathmore's gates. It is essentially the armpit of Ridge.
Darn was really hoping it had turned around. The condo looks so beautiful. Thanks for the info!!
The owner-occupied units look alright, but remember: you're buying the neighborhood, not just the unit... and you get what you pay for. Strathmore condos are significantly below market value and the taxes and common fees are so much lower than other condo complexes, because it's very poorly-maintained, high in crime, and most of units are designated Section 8.
I bought a condo there years ago when the community was well maintained and there was no crime. That was one of the biggest mistakes I could have ever made. Why the management would allow the community to go completely downhill is beyond me. First of all, it should have stayed owner occupied. Then they allowed Section 8 to come in and it was the beginning of the end of the Strathmore condos in Ridge. As the area was getting increasingly worse, I got out of there for my own safety as well as many others. Now that the community has gotten this bad there is no hope for every reviving the area. Let this be a warning for anyone ever considering moving into this dangerous, drug filled community filled with crime.

Interesting, I wonder why they started accepting Section 8 in the first place
