Not sure about LI districts. It tends to vary. I know that they generally don't include dental insurance, so that takes some out of your salary. In the city both are free.
See, I don't consider $43,300 much, nor the $45,000 that you anticipate as compared with the educational requirements, certification and the work involved in teaching (not to mention the cost of living in NYC). Although if you're young and have no children, etc., you can make it work.

I don't agree that it "goes up fast pretty quickly". I think it's a few hundred dollars per salary step (per year).

It goes up fast pretty quick. Don't forget, with our pension, we make about 30k a year or more extra.

My fiance and I are teachers and we're in our early/mid 20s and make around 100k together. I consider that a good start for us.

Schedule G of the school budget is where teachers or administrators making over 100K are listed. The school districts have to make that public.

In Manhasset this includes all of our teachers and admin. Starting salary for a fresh out of school teacher is 85k-95k

It'll give you listings for teachers salary and number of teachers employed. Just divide one into the other. It also seperates out teachers benefit package so you can calculate that too.

Try reading Shadowbosses - Government Unions Control America and Rob Taxpayers Blind - by Mallory and Elizabeth Factor - explains all about governmental unions and political influence. The teachers' unions are included in this book. Keep your Pepto Bismol handy - this book will make you sick.

If Nassau County and Suffolk County each had only one superintendent, that would go a long way to lowering our taxes. All those superfluous superintendents and asst. superintendents would be laid off along with any other redundancies.
