I for one hate this invasive plant called running bamboo and hope to see it completely banned from all of long island eventually. My neighbor behind me has a run of 40 foot tall running bamboo for privacy and I have spent the last 3 years beating it back and trying to kill it.
trying to keep it out of my yard is almost impossible.

Default The first thing I thought of is ...

... put a panda bear in your yard to eat it all up!!

But, seriously, that stuff can be a PITA ... I know what you mean.

Soon they'll be running for bamboo marriage.

They must be stopped. Think of the children.

Wow they should ban it every where. My mother in laws neighbor has it growing and he does not bother to cut it back so she has too. It's been there over 30 years so the neighbor she has now did not plant it. They did pour salt on the ground after cutting it back and it stopped growing for a couple of years but now it's back. It grows over her fence and driveway and it looks like a jungle.

Put up a barrier (or have your neighbor put it up).

Last year I started on one side of the yard cutting the stalks and then pouring roundup concentrate directly into the shoot. This kills the whole plant, but it only does it one at a time. Last year I made it through half the yard. This year I plan on doing the other half.
But I don't think it will help for long.

I think that the burden of the barrier should fall on the neighbor that wants to grow the bamboo.
I wonder if this might be a job for the new "village committee" lol

My neighbor has it and it invades. I read where you have 8 seconds from the time you make the cut till it closes off itself from the cut area. When I cut it I have a pressurized sprayer with round-up so it's cut, spray and it works. After 2 years I am bamboo free and it even has killed somed on my neighbors side where the whole root stock got killed...
