Kentucky is a Border State which is why it’s continually debated upon which region it belongs, but is about 90% Southern, in my opinion. It’s Southern Lite, though.
The one thing going against Kentucky being fully Southern is that many in the State to include businesses, residents and the State Government, don’t really embrace being Southern, compared to other Southern states that are very proud of the Region. You won’t find many roadside signs/ads, commercials or events promoting Southern style cuisine, events and traditions like you do in other states.
But Kentucky does not fit into the Midwest region as well as it does the Southeast. Kentucky is a great place and I always defend its Southernness.

The primary reason KY has lost it's "southern" culture for the most part, is because the passed 40 years of Northerners migrating in to KY. When this migration of different cultures happens to any state, its "old" ways and culture are eventually dissolved in to something much different. This is not to say when this happens though, that it is necessarily a bad change for a state. JMO
