It's so beautiful. Shame it hasn't become a rural tourist area that would bring service jobs to the area.

I agree and as the impact of the once unchecked strip mining gets a lot farther in the rearview mirror hopefully that will become an option.

I've heard a few stories of the ”higher ups” in the Eastern KY region. Not to go into too much detail or specifics....I dated a girl who lived there in the 90s with her family. Her dad worked IT in the school systems. As some point he came across some child porn on a high ranking school officials computer. Took it to the authorities and was ran out of the area. Death threats to his family and moved to southcentral KY to get away from it all. The judge working the case was found burned alive in his car. So like any area of the country, you're going to find the good and the bad.

Dude…. There is no record to be found of a judge in Eastern Kentucky being burned alive in his car in the 90’s or since. Such an event would have been a major news story, regardless of why it occurred. I agree in every area you are going to find both good and bad, but how about we not conjure up stories to make that point.

Yes, I lived in here in the 1990s and considering my line of work, that is something that I would have known about.
