Kentucky came in at a dismal 44th, in America's Health ranking.
2012 Kentucky Health Statistics - Kentucky State Health Statistics brought to you by AmericasHealthRankings.org.
The worst factor seems to be smoking, more people still smoke in Kentucky compared to any other state.

So this is saying the people in this state overall are not healthy right? This doesnt mean its actual health care system is 44th because I thought I read the hospitals in Louisville and Lexington were actually very high rated?

Yes, this is the correct interpretation.

Smoking, lack of regular exercise, and poor eating habits (leading to overweight and diabetes) are major contributors to the poor health of many Kentuckians, especially those who lack education and live in more rural areas. However, Lexington and Louisville have excellent health care facilities (which often wind up treating some of those whose habits are not particularly healthy!).

Oh yeah, the Medical Care especially in Louisville and Lexington are great, it just means overall health and things of people - More people in smoke here than any other state, and it really takes a toll on the stats,
yet things like low violent crime rate really help, but evidently not enough to offset the smoking and obesity factors.
So, yes, it's not an indicator of how good the health care systems are at all, it does indicate how lifestyle choices affect the rankings.

I wonder why they smoke so much compared to other places. You can also say they rank #1 in enjoying a smoke.

For one thing, tobacco has always been a huge crop for KY.

Come to Texas. Don't know where we rank in the survey, but at one point we had won the obesity race. I probably put us over the top when I moved here in 2010!
