Im a mechanic and my wife has the oppertunity to relocate down there (were in michigan) just not shure how the housing and job market is down there. Thoughts?

etown is nice but more "southern" and a long commute to the city. I would look at Oldham County. Specifically, speak with Tomocox. You may like Lagrange.
