Madigan is truly a mastermind when it comes to being able to work around hiring rules designed to curtail “patronage”. The recent raid was on Madigan associate who has a “pipeline” to jobs with ComEd. They are not a unit of government so patronage rules don’t apply. They are, however HIGHLY regulated and in contrast fear that Chicago might shift from having ComEd maintain the “last mile” of electrical service to going the route of Naperville and making that a municipal thing OR bidding out that part of the “franchise” to some private equity backed group, SO it is a perfect place for Madigan to send folks “who need a job for my kid”. Same story for things like People’s Gas, various road builders, firms that maintain the aspects of the water distribution system that sells Lake Michigan water, and a myriad of other options that only a criminal genius would figure out how to link into the unionized army of buffoons that mindlessly pull the lever for Dems...

Don’t take this as slam on any of the hardworking people that got their jobs without “clout”. Heck I know many more folks like that who work their tail off and increasingly have moved into NWI or the fringe-ish parts of Will Co where they are isolated from the “connected” types that have a fast track from rank&file to cushy internal union positions where their hardest day is making sure that some Daley nephew “manages” their pension funds into oblivion...

Those folks “in the main office” have salaries deep into the six figures, and it is only because “they was sent by somebody”. You might wonder why the rank & file put up with these kinds of rip-offs, and the simple answer is the same reason that bad politicians get elected to office — the message is tailored to push the buttons of those who vote. Talk to any union tradesperson and they will spout back what is printed the most in their “newsletter” / union web site: “vote this person who is endorsed by leadership because they know what it takes to keep the big contractors ensuring only union workers work on the big jobs / can keep the utility from bringing in scabs from non-union states”. AS IF!!! It’s nonsense, but just like other campaign promises that never get challenged it is all it takes...

Term limits would help, but...
"The barrier for voters is that the task of enacting term limits is left in the hands of those who’d be subject to them. Many Illinois officeholders are not eager to voluntarily limit their own power. For a term limits proposal to reach the appropriate substantive committee, and then reach the House floor for a vote, it must first pass the Rules Committee, over which the House speaker holds considerable sway. Sure enough, such resolutions have repeatedly been left to die in Rules."

Madigan is the master of killing anything that might help the majority.

Just wanted to add in case anyone was unaware, but the feds just indicted state Senator Tom Cullerton on Friday on embezzlement charges stemmed from over 300K in payments from the Teamsters Union.

With everything the feds have going on in 2019 with their subpoenas and task forces, it would not shock me in the least if somebody gives up Madigan to save their own hide. It seems clear they are building a case against him

Madigan never writes anything down. And he never talks dirt on the phone. Similar to a gangster he likely gives orders through one or max two guys and the only way he comes down is if one of those two flip. It's highly unlikely and I hope he dies of natural causes soon.

You have to understand how he keeps getting re-elected. Madigan represents the 22nd District in the House of Representatives. It's on Chicago's southwest side near Midway airport. It was traditionally an area where police and firefighters moved to because of the residency requirements. Just recently, it's become mostly Hispanic. Madigan "took care" of his people. He grew up there in that tiny district. His father was the ward superintendent. This is disturbing. Madigan runs for the most part unopposed. He receives around 13,000 votes of the 57,000 registered voters in his district. Less than 18,000 cast a vote. It's not unlike our presidential elections. Madigan is speaker of the house with around 2% of the vote in Illinois, yet, his approval rating is around 20%. Madigan managed to get millions of dollars for a new school in his district when money was tight in Illinois. His district loved that. All people vote in their self interests. Just as the rich in this country vote for big tax breaks at the expense of others. It's politics 101. We the people usually can't see the forest for the trees.

So, what is the best way to take down a well entrenched mafia? Legally, through the courts by exposing corruption and holding those accountable. We the people are just not smart enough to see the whole picture when someone dangles a new school at our feet. Madigan flew under the radar for decades because he never ran for a statewide position. His tiny district kept him in power and he was able to get away with tax hikes, reckless borrowing, and broken budgets. I see the parallels in this current white house. Illinois is in serious trouble financially because of mismanagement and I see our country now heading down that path. We the people have to become informed voters, not vote with the cult of personality because I just got a big beautiful sucker.

I have decided that for my own personal situation the best course of action is just to leave Illinois, and leave it to it’s fate. I’m not originally from here anyway, so I have little motivation to want to invest time and money trying to save it. Moreover, if the last election is any any indicator, it seems a majority want more taxes and are at best ambivalent to corruption. So be it.

I bought something from a guy off NextDoor in nearby Barrington Hills last week and we were chatting and he informed me that the property taxes are over 100 thousand a year. And this was no mansion either. Sure it was nice but over 100K in taxes? GTFO. You have got to be kidding me. His house had been on the market over 2 years.

In my own neighborhood in Lake in the Hills, I have lost track of how many neighbors have left in the little over a year since I moved in. It’s staggering. This being Sunday, there is a small army of real estate agents doing open houses today. Sure this is anecdotal, but it jives with the official out migration numbers we have seen.

At some point even the crazy ideologies are going to get fed up and develop an exit strategy

Wow 100,000 a year in taxes? We have friends that built a million dollar plus house in Downers Grove and their taxes are $22,000 a year. I thought that was outrageous. I agree something has to be done. We had a Republican governor that nearly put us in junk bond status as a state. We have the corrupt democratic machine firmly in place that wastes money and we have a huge pension crisis. Something has to change. I'm liquidating the rentals and vacillate about selling and moving, It's a choice between giving up money and staying or paying less and leaving a life that took over three decades to make.

Our little satellite suburb of Chicago is seeing a surge in property values because people are fleeing the city and discovering you get more for the money here, but for how long? It's been good for us because we bought really low and could sell really high. so I guess the increase in property values makes up for the taxes. That and being debt free. Paying a little higher taxes also keeps the riffraff out, so I guess it's not all bad.
