Not the political forum, i.e. not the place...

Look, the FACT is Durbin is Illinois Senior Senator and the Number Two Democrat in the Senate. If that ain't appropriate enough to examine the POLITICS AS USUAL that have been ruined Illinois financial health and continue to drive the Federal deficit even larger then I don't know why else this matters...

If you want to focus on Durbin and current Democrats running the state, then fine, but it belongs in the political forum. And if you want to remark on the fiscal policies of Illinois, then you should actually focus on something regarding fiscal policies/waste/government spending. Your remark was clearly directed at Obama (not Durbin, as your reply claims), and you wrote nothing that addressed the people of, the fiscal condition of or the economy of Illinois.

The reason that Illinois cannot afford to operate that prison has as much to do with the "it does not matter if we can't pay for it, let's just spend it" policies of governors from the GOP and Dem going along with corrupt Dem Speaker of the House Madigan and other lawmakers as it does with former State Senator Obama and current US Senator Durbin -- the clout of Durbin being able to "break the rules" allows for budget busting decisions at all levels.

Until people stop kidding themselves that "money falls from the sky" and stop electing corrupt politicians with no ethical consistency toward reckless spending the global financial markets are going to punish citizens of the US with rising costs and declining standard of living.

I think it is a good plan. It is a shame the state wasted $140M on a building that is slowly decaying. There is no reason it cannot be used to relieve overcrowding, or bust up gang activity, or house the worst-of-the-worst lifers like Big Mac does, or house death row inmates that have lost all appeals.

Vlajos, I don't enough about constitutional law or Senate rules to make a coherent statement. The gridlock was ended and one Illinois white elephant can go into the history books as a win.

This is not about "constitutional law" merely the latest example of how problems can't be swept under the rug.

Maybe Illinois did need the prison, but the process of greasing downstate votes with wasteful projects like this is a disgrace. The little bit of sanity that Quinn has in NOT trying to staff such a boondoggle does NOT solve the problem of what the Feds will do with this thing.

The money that Durbin squeezed out of the Dept of Justice will add to the Federal deficit and increase the need to pay more taxes and/or face increasing global prices for our devalued currency.

A WIN?!?

My gawd! The ignorance...
