The rankings were listed as Small Sized, Medium Sized, and Large Sized Cities. I concentrated on Illinois towns (excepting the highest ranked city in each group among our Five State areA).

Small Cities (243): The best ranking of IL, IN, MI, OH, and WI is:#3 Columbus, IN.
Soringfield #81; Kankakee #87; Decatur#90; Rockford #147; B-N #160; Danville #186; C-U #239.

Medium Cities (91): The best ranking of IL, IN, MI, OH, and WI is:#10 Grand Rapids, MI; Peoria #11; Quad Cities #87.

Large Cities (65): The best ranking of IL, IN, MI, OH. and WI is:Columbus, OH #22
Chicago-Naperville-Joliet Metro Division #48.

#10 OKC beat out Chicago, KC, NYC, and St. Louis

It's interesting how they come up with the size categories: "This year’s rankings reflect the current size of each MSA’s employment."

This means that a city that is usually considered medium size because of its population, such as Rockford (MSA population ~350,000), becomes one of the Small Cities because it has a very high unemployment rate.

Need to look at these numbers again once the correction centers and mental facilities are closed according to the current governor's wishes and whims...there will be massive loss of jobs in Illinois.

I doubt he shut down all because it would be impossible. He may close old facilities across the state due to the cost of keeping it open or he could convert convert a facility to a non 24/7 use like a larger SOS office. A college bought one of the state facilities in Peoria for a larger campus that was new in 1968.

The governor already has a list of the mental facilties and correction facility centers he wants to close. Among those develpmental facilities are Jacksonville Developmental center, Warren B. Murray Children's Center in Centralia, and Tinley Park Center (where a lot of the residents from the closed Lincoln Developmental Center went). The Springfield McFarland Center is not on the list yet but is just about the last one. When Zeller Mental Health facility in Peoria closed, the governor at that time.....the convicted George Ryan tried to sell that to Illinois Central College for a dollar. George Ryan also closed Lincoln Develmental Center in Lincoln and that caused 698 jobs to be lost.

Unfortunately with the closing of mental health facilities, there will many jobs lost but more importantly there will many residents who will be displaced......group homes can't care for the severly disabled and nursing homes are currently reducing the number of Medicaid beds....plus the funding for Medicaid is being cut for care takers. Many parents of these severly disabled persons are not living thus, where in the world will they go when the facilties close?

We keep close tabs on this subject .... one of our family members was faced with this same situation a few years ago.

Sadly, those without family, may all go to one facility.
