I suppose you could get exposure.

Even if it's only a flash in the pan.

This is exactly right.

I have an old friend who became a professional landscape photographer after some of the photos he took were used by the state in one of their promotions.

He had been an amateur for years, but once his work got some notice, he was contacted by several magazines that wanted to see his photos.
One in particular- Oprah magazine- liked them so much they published several of them over the course of around 2 years.

Ever since then, he's been making a good living selling official signed prints of those photos, along with many others that were never published. Several galleries are also selling prints.

I feel bad that I started this thread and didn't realize I would get updates without subscribing myself.

Here is the November Iconic Idaho Photos and I will be sure to add the December ones when they are posted as well. These photos always bring a smile and peaceful feelings.

Enjoy and Happy New Year!

Did they feature your photo? If so, can you share the link?

Sorry someone stole your work! I briefly looked at the FAQ's on that sigh and I was surprised that I didn't notice anything about who has and who retains the rights to the photos posted. Usually the web photos are much lower resolution, so when I love a photo, I reach out to the photographer to buy prints from them directly.

Thanks. That’s what I was worried about. The photographer should retain all rights. That’s all.
