A quick web search show Orifino high still has the “Maniacs” as the mascot and team name. As for the general area it is mostly quite rural but with some beautiful river scenery. Not really near any major population areas. Likely quite conservative.

Except for 2020 (good riddance), I spend some time in the area every year. Mostly camping in the back country but I've paid attention to all the towns for a potential retirement spot. I won't need 20 acres, just enough space so I don't have to trip over the neighbors junk or deal with their dogs dumping in my yard. Talking at the cafe one day I mentioned Orofino seemed a little more on the tourist trap & coffee shop side than what I liked, Kamiah felt about right, and (no offense) Kooskia seemed a little rough around the edges. His answer-- Yup, and Stites is a little rougher yet! He was from Stites and it was all in fun, but he seemed to understand the area. Grangeville is like the open prairie I want to get away from so I'm NOT looking there, I like the valley. I used to see online incident reports from a local paper, it seemed 3 am property crimes of opportunity could happen anywhere. Just don't advertise opportunity.

Nowhereman,
Yes, theft of stuff visible to those driving by to grab & go, many places in the countryside show nothing from the road except a long driveway entrance. Most low life's maybe know better than to go driving into a place like that. Although there were some cases of temporarily vacant places being cased, and then invaded & cleaned out.

Funny to see Stites mentioned on this site - my grandfather was the 'mayor' of Stites for decades; nobody else wanted the job. It used to be a nice tiny town 30 years ago and fun to walk around as a kid but I'm assuming it's pretty rough anymore.
