But CFF got me thinking about other ways to make all this happen. There are small houses with smaller prices in locations we like, maybe flipping one of those types of homes is an option. Just thinking out loud. The market may cool, so location is key.
The market is crazy. We bought a house that was ok for us, and figured we could later sell once we really knew where we wanted to be. In the interim we’ve lived in the house enough to figure out how to remodel/renovate it to make it work for out lives. Not perfect, but cheaper than selling and buying another, and we feel fortunate to have a place. I’d recommend considering buying your friend’s house if you can settle on a price. Then you have an anchor and can start making plans, it takes the pressure off. Then you can get here, and figure out next steps. The market might crater this winter—but it might not, and then if you keep waiting you will be further behind in reaching your goals, especially financially. Good luck whatever you decide....

Has life in Idaho turned out better, or worse, or no big difference? Was it worth the move? If so, what made it worth the expense, upheaval and trouble?
Thanks for bringing that up. Of course, the meaning of "worth it" is pretty wide open. Worth it how?

But yeah, I'm thrilled with the move. Took a lot of time and effort to move everything, and it's still not done, but we're set up well and enjoying our acreage and seclusion.
