Have you made any decisions? I know Fallbrook! Best Avocados! We have neighbors on our street that moved from Murrieta this past summer and they just love it here. I think for winters, you need to have a winter activity or travel. We did neither this past winter due to circumstances but it wasn't too bad. Definitely much, much different than SoCal.

Of course, that means we've got to rent out the new Idaho property for a couple years (actually just 2 weeks per year required), but that worked for us. Don't know what your situation is, but that might be a consideration.
We actually took the full plunge last year and sold our San Diego home and bought here in Hayden. Sandpoint is a beautiful area as well! We camped recently in Hope (Sam Owens). Just amazing. Pend Orielle is quite the lake.

Now this is going to be a bummer for my wife and I. Both of us born and raised in Texas we lust over both real Mexican food and the Tex-Mex that the rest of the country thinks is Mexican. We also like Thai food as well so again a little bummer. The good news is at least we both can make authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex food ourselves so at least our daughter can have the good stuff.

Any steakhouses with some good chicken fried steak? That's another vice of ours...

- Cell service - It's just bad up here. I have AT&T and it's really bad. Heard Verizon is better but it's still not good.
I've heard and read the same, though Verizon can be good in certain areas but that really depends on where you are out in the boonies. And [mod cut], we're gonna be way out there when we move up there.

You'll do fine with the steakhouses, even chicken fried steak. The Mexican/Tex-Mex food you'll have to cook yourselves. But Sandpoint has a really good selection of restaurants.
