Both chicks were hatched this past week. The second was just a couple days ago, and the first a couple days before that.

Feeding time at the nest, and apparently I'm the only one watching! I guess everybody is out enjoying the weather. Both chicks look fine, both parents are in the nest. Nice Saturday family time! Have a great 4th of July weekend, everybody!

Strange happenings at the Memorial Field osprey nests these past couple days.

There is a second nest on a light pole near the street (not the nest shown on the osprey cam). The couple who occupy this nest are known as Mr. & Mrs. Street.

Yesterday two osprey collided in mid-air over Memorial Field. Both birds were killed. It is believed the two birds who died were Mr. & Mrs. Street. Initial reports were that they were fighting over a fish, but I think the consensus opinion now is that they were both defending their nest and accidentally collided.

The couple had two chicks and one unhatched egg (probably non - viable). Both chicks have been rescued and are at a birds of prey rescue center where they will be raised by another female osprey.

Thanks for letting us know. Life can be dramatic sometimes! How odd that the parents collided. Poor chicks! If this had happened in a less public place, those chicks would have perished, unobserved.

The chicks have found a new home on the St. Joe River.
