Gato, I thought we resolved all that when you brought it up in 2010. But apparently our responses didn't make any difference. If you ever get back to NID for a visit, you'll find that everybody says North Idaho, and they're not separatists, or on Hagadone's payroll...but thanks for the history lesson...

Exactly! I lived in North Idaho for 14 years and my husband grew up there. I have never heard anyone say Northern Idaho. This goes for Hagadone fans and non-fans alike

Nobody says south eastern Idaho either. It's always south east Idaho (or south west Idaho). I've heard north/northern about 50/50.

The secession thing has been going on for as long as Idaho has been a state. The top 1/3 and the bottom 1/3 got carved up by various territorial boundaries 5 times, but no one wanted the middle, where all the mountains are.

I say northern Idaho... but that's because I wasn't born and raised here and no matter how many times I hear it, "north Idaho" still sounds grammatically incorrect to me.

Call it what you want, but in a couple of years, I hope to call it "home".

Funny but when I was a kid it was the Panhandle. Everyone said they lived in the panhandle. Call it what you like I call it home...

No problem. And Spokane was known as the Inland Empire...

I have a cool old map of the area that calls the region, "The Emerald Empire". It stretches from the ID/WA line at Newport up to the Canadian border, east to the other side of Libby, MT and down to St. Marie's. The Emerald Empire....I love how it sounds.

Inland Empire is still used. Our United States Pony Club region is the Inland Empire Region.

The Idaho state high school sports league in this area is "Inland Empire League" (IEL).
