I was passing through Frankfurt in October on the way back from the Middle East and I had time to sit and watch the planes and noticed one of these in the distance. When we boarded the bus to to board our flight, we passed right by this behemoth. It's hard to describe unless you've been next to one, or flew in one. Anyway, Houston is joining a unique club to host these aircraft. I will be on this flight next year in Business.

Dang. Sardine can, or what? If you hear that some HUGE airplane plowed through the end of the runway and is in the parking lot at Gunspoint Mall, that's it!

I've flown few times on one between Singapore and Tokyo. Wonderful experience even in economy. Seemed smoother but I could definitely tell it was much quieter.

Plus Singapore Air equipped theirs with a top notch entertainment system.

Good that Houston is finally being served by one.

Looks like we beat Dallas to the punch! Lufthansa just added their service from Frankfurt to Miami earlier this year. It makes sense for them to bring it here first with the plethora of connections that you can have on United/Continental...

Wow, that's great. I've seen A380s in Toronto many times and wondered when they would be serviced here.

We can thank Continental/United for this... Continental purchased a fleet of the Boeing Dreamliner jets a few years ago, and have been upgrading the facilities in Houston to handle that size of a plane, I'm guessing they will have to modify their plans somewhat for the A380. You will see three loading bridges to get the 555 passengers + crew on board the A380, two for coach on one level, and also a third for the second level where Business and FC and coach are. It must take a while to load all 555+ passengers.

Lots of people in one space. You are right! It will take forever to load all the luggage and passengers in and out. Long wait at the carousel too.

Looks like economy seat space got even smaller. Business and First Class got bigger.

Actually compared to other large planes (777 and 747) space on coach is larger... cabin feels roomier, more overhead space... plus you get your own private screen... wifi... lots of entertainment... sure, it's a lot of people onboard, but not as bad as you may think....

The article does say that it will go to Terminal D (Continental/United don't have any departures from there yet) it's the international terminal where all of the other international carriers depart. However, it does say that it gives the airport enough time to make accomodations for this plane...

Really?

I assume you can't sit on those seats when the plane is in the air, right? Wait I see seatbelts so you possibly can. Wow.
