I don't know about the city, but I heard that in Greenville County the The Whistle Stop at The American Cafe had the lowest serial number DHEC approval still around - #1 or #7 or something like that.

Interesting! I was looking for in the county anyways. Should have specified. Any idea when they opened?

Originally in 1945, then closed at some point. Complete building renovation and reopened some time in perhaps 2013 or so.

The Clock has been open since 1954, before closing in 2022 The Open Hearth in Taylors was open since 1959. The Clock almost closed in 2013 but support got the landowner to renegotiate the lease.

There are lots of Clock restaurant locations in the upstate. Some of them are newer.

Peddler has been around since '69.. That has to be up there on the list.. But probably first is a clock or Pete's or similar.

I guess Stax Original has been around since the mid 90's. I believe someone posted on here before it was a Sam Wyche Sports World a local sporting goods chain that shut down in early 90's after a deal fell through to sell to Hibbett Sports.
