Oh my this thread is so funny. I have lived in Ft Myers for 30 yrs. I am now 37. Yes cape Coral is ugly. But to some people the Fl sun is paradise. There really isn't much to do but go to the beach or mall. You are right and crime is here but these things are everywhere. Lehigh Acres and Cape Coral have been selling homes like crazy in recent past years, but they are the ugliest towns in all of southwest Fl. Ft Myers might have a higher crme rate but they also have the oldest neighborhood in the county, where the lowest income is. And that is one small five mile area. The rest of Ft Myers is pretty good. And much prettier than the other areas. just thought I would add my opinion in case anyone wanted a womens point of view. SW FL is a nice area overall, great place if you like boating, golfing, beach, shopping. It is becoming an area for weathly people.

I don't understand lindlu's change of heart. She's been complaining about Fort Myers, and wanted to move.

Here's what she said about Fort Myers: Also its gone down hill here. As a 30 year resident, i have seen the changes here. Alot more crime and bad neighborhoods have sprouted recently.

Sounds like someone wants to sell their house.

Lee County foreclosures kept rising last month, with Cape Coral leading the way. June’s foreclosures totaled 968, up from May’s 867, according to the Lee County Clerk of Court.”

“It was a continuation of a long runup in foreclosures as the real estate market has cooled, the rate in April 2006, before the numbers took off, was only 131.”

Foreclosures are up all over and we know why. Most in your area are from greed. investers that are getting what they deserve, banks that gave loans to anyone are getting what they deserve and some people that complain about the prices of homes or cant sell theres because they thought it was great when they were refinancing and getting that inflated price and spending it now they cant sell for that inflated price so the bank gets stuck with it but they already got the money and spent it. And you can not tell me that is not true it is all over the country.granted there are some that cant afford the sewer and water .But they should be able to sell and still make a huge profit if they did not refi or buy at the peak.just dont get greedy. If they dont want to sell and love there home I feel terrible for them truly from the heart that is terrible and something should be done to help them. A word to the wise if buying make sure the water and sewer are in or be prepared to pay it eventually so get the house at the correct price. take care all

I too feel the same way. I lived there for a year and hated it. My husband has family there and everytime we have to visit I dread it. Its a terrible shame what they did with the trees. I think it looks like a bomb hit the place. Yeah there are some trees but small ones not like where I live now in Yankeetown. The scenery is gorgeous.

I'm confused as to why residents of the third safest city in Florida are listing crime as a major complaint. I think it is because the residents of Cape Coral need something to complain about all the time. They can never just be happy. The only thing I could possibly find to complain about is sewer assesments (which by the way, city water is NECESSARY)! Here is my complaint, I would never live in Cape Coral because I can't stand the people. If I was Mayor Feichthaler (sp?) I would be wanting to leave my city position for a countny position too. Cape residents are very hard to deal with. By the way, I believe only 43 residents were polled for that survey from a city with over 150,000. I don't consider 43 a large enough number to get a general conclusion from.
