That budget for that size apartment is going to put you in a neighborhood that is run-down and is going to compromise the family's safety.

Check out rent.com but you'll probably find less desireable areas in hollywood closer to i-95.

South Florida and affordability shouldn't even be in the same sentence. That is a tough call to answer your question. Even the hood is expensive (for being in the hood) if you really think about it. You can find something in that price range but as the poster said before it will not be very safe and I can pretty much guarantee that you will not have a washer/dryer in the unit. Maybe try east Miramar?

I lived all over from pine hills orl, deepside, shallowside, north lauderdale and i have never in my life been victimized in any neighborhood that i lived

Try the Sun-Sentinel newspaper and check the classifieds. Then try realtor.com and check for rentals. Prices are changing (lower) with the market. Good luck to you. Also try the Lauderhill area.

What? You mean people aren't being murdered every hour here in Broward? I swear that's what's happening from most of the posters here. I don't know if my children will survive this week with all this CRIME here.

Sorry, I'm off track. I can't answer your first initial question. I haven't rented a place in 10 years and I was able to rent a very nice townhouse in Coconut Creek's Township are for $850/mth then. I'm sure it's a lot more expensive now though.

I guess it's all relative to what a person is comfortable with. I may be one of the few but I really just simply associated the word "family" with a place with as low crime as possible and within their price range (even though I honestly know that no place is perfect). No, I don't think you will necessarily get shot/robbed walking outside of your door but I don't think I could ever be 100% positive that I will be perfectly safe no matter where I am. Hence, I was only trying to help. (Apartmentguide.com is also another good resource) Good luck with your family's move.

I'm glad that someone addressed this, it really is nerve racking coming from another city and having people tell you how dangerous things are. You know it is bad when you have people from NY shook.

There is NO REASON for anyone from NYC to be shook down here. But being cautiously concerned is in order for SOME areas.

As to the OP and those prices. That's gonna be tough I think. Even in the hood over off of sistrunk they jacked up the prices. For a one bedroom efficiency these idiots were hitting the locals in the head for 1,000 a month. Up from 700 not a short while ago. Me personally, I would live in the hood here, I am not to concerned with anyone stepping to me. ONLY thing I would be worried about is break-ins. Depending on where you are, that could be a issue.

WS..not sure if u remember- it was on the news (a female stranger knoced on his door and some words were exchange and came back a couple days later with her nephew), around thanksgiving a guy who used to park next to me a couple years ago in the garage up here, got shot in the head down, so u got to be careful. He was one of the nicest people in the world.
