This is the biggest bunch of crap I've ever heard. Wilton Manors is comprised of gay MEN and WOMEN. It is not composed of mostly gay men.

The City of Wilton Manors has done nothing to make developers of new apartment buildings in Wilton Manors set aside a small number of units in their buildings that charge rents based upon a person's income. Florida has a minimum wage of $7.75 an hour and younger Gay men have found it increasingly difficult to find an affordable apartment in Wilton Manors and because there's not a large number of apartment buildings in Wilton Manors in comparison to the number of single family homes, the younger Gay men who might otherwise live in the area don't.

Why would the city of Wilton Manors make developers or owners of new apartment buildings charge less than the market rate? Should the city of Fort Lauderdale make oceanfront developers only charge a minimal amount for oceanfront property because you think so? Gee, I want to live in a highrise in Midtown Manhattan and only want to pay $1500 per month. I think the city of New York should force developers and owners to only charge me this.

I know MANY gay men AND women who live in Wilton Manors and wait tables for a living.

The minimum wage is $8.05 an hour.

A quick visit to the majority of restaurants and clubs in Wilton Manors and some talking to the other patrons will show you that the majority of the younger people in these clubs are either tourists or do not live in Wilton Manors.

The whole Fort Lauderdale area is increasingly becoming devoid of younger Gay men as rents and home costs continue to rise because of the large number of out of State moneyed people buying property here so they can claim Florida residency and not have to pay state and city taxes on their investment income, which many people now have these days from taking stock in their companies as part of their retirement income. The state of Florida and the cities here have no income taxes that you'll see in places like New York and Chicago, to name a few.

The two Gay bath houses in the Fort Lauderdale area have mostly older patrons and one is quite popular with the senior crowd which generally has fixed incomes as it provides a free all you can eat style of buffet on Saturdays and Sundays during certain hours.

Most of the younger men that you do see here are usually being kept by an older Daddy type because it's tough to find a job in this area as most of the retail jobs are low paying and located in discount price type stores that don't pay commissions. I can't tell you the number of times I've been hit on by a guy in his 20's, who after talking me up, introduces me to their, "Dad," and wants me to go home with the two of them with the younger guy acting as "Dad's" bait.

So just because Wilton Manors has a high percentage of Gays, don't think they're young as they are not. Instead of settling down and moving out of the "Gay Ghetto" as they get older as they form relationships, get married, and pursing a career, the majority of Gays here are older men with some sort of Peter Pan syndrome where they seem to think they are forever young, try to look like it with lots of inappropriate clothing choices for older sagging bodies and who seem to be moving here in droves to spend their time playing Bingo at the Pride Center and trying to pick up younger men coming out of the large number of meetings held there where they are attending drug and alcohol recovery groups which seems to be the main social outlet here for younger Gay men, probably to help them deal with the reality of living here and the remorse they have to deal with for going through the expense and trouble of moving here and not being able to financially survive unless they take on an older, usually not too well preserved older Sugar Daddy, or find a series of older Gay men who will help them with their rent, utility, clothing expenses, etc. in return for the younger guy dispensing his favors.
This entire post is crap.

Have you ever even been out in Wilton Manors?

Firstly, it is not just gay men, it is for the entire LGBT community. I am very active in the local community and the majority of my friends are gay and live in Wilton Manors and are ALL ages.

This is a sad, angry post.

I hope people understand that while Wilton Manors is more expensive to live in, it's neighboring communities like Oakland Park and North Andrews Gardens are QUICKLY filling up with homosexuals that want nice homes in nice quieter areas with BIGGER YARDS AND PRIVACY and they are also directly adjacent to WM. North Andrews Gardens is directly north, and literally 1/3 of the houses on my street are owned by homosexuals, and the houses in this neighborhood are STILL selling for $150k-$250k depending on how much updating is needed, and thank goodness the entire area is a tremendous mix of races AND ages, and we don't have to deal with the nightly insanity of music booming through the houses.

Didn't Wilton Manors go the way of the Castro in San Fran? the quest for homes and retail, and development pushed out the little submarkets of gays, or other races, etc. Its migration evolution. They build a new road and that destroys an Italian neighborhood, for example. Gay neighborhoods are no different.

No Wilton is still very much gay.

Gone are the days of getting a home in NAG for 200k. Now, they’re selling between 400-600.

Also, I follow real estate sales, and several Hollywood Hills sales in 2014 were to gay/lesbian couples. Hollywood is not in anyway "gay," however. I figure the Hollywood Hills area might be attractive to couples, as it was to us, because it has a great stock of large 1960s-era homes, and you can get much more house for the money than in Miami-Dade County. In addition, you've got proximity to I-95, the beach, and an attractive downtown area. We're enjoying it.
In regards to the gay men living there, in Hollywood, are they older? Younger? Is it more white? Or a lot of latinos? I am considering moving to Hollywood from SoBe because it's affordable.

However, part of the reason that I moved to SoBe, is I love the Latin, international vibe it has. I am latino as well, and that is what drew me to Miami form the north.

I mean not for nothing, but Hollywood is not south Beach lol. However, it's still very much south Florida. Tons of Canadians and ppl from Quebec there during snow bird season. It's not that it's more white per se, but it's not as cosmopolitan/international as south Beach, but then again, very few places are. South Beach/Miami is super unique in that sense, but being in Hollywood, you're relatively close and Aventura is right next store, which is Miami-Dade county, so it's not that Hollywood feels all that different than say anywhere else in northern Dade county. At the end of the day, it's not as glam and flashy as south beach, it's still super touristy and definitely has a healthy "international" vibe, as most of south FL does in some sense. Lots of latinos, whites, canadians, tourists from all over. It very much reflects south FL. Gay vibe? I mean.... IDK, nothing particularly striking about a gay vibe like there is in wilton manors. I doubt you'll find drag shows and gay bars honestly. But you'll be close to Haulover Beach which attracts a very gay crowd

Thanks. Yeah, I mean gay bars aren't that important to me as I don't frequent them that much. But I definitely want to live in a place that there are a good amount of gay guys that I can meet, be friends and date with.

For example a place like Jupiter Florida wouldn't work for me, but a place like WPB, which is not a mecca for gay guys, but still has a gay population works well enough for me.
