Hey as long as it sells, Publix doesn't care if people drop dead.

As for a tax on gyms, I guess the FREE STATE of Florida ain't that free LOL! Another tax on Floridians, in addition to exorbitant home, auto insurance and utility bills!
Totally agree! I have a part time job at Publix and I watch the type of people who go to the deli. Well most of the store does since our clientele a lot of them are obese and old and yes, they're slobs. Buying fried foods, loading sandwiches up to the max, and the hot bar is usually filled with high sodium junk like orange chicken or chicken wings that are barely warm.

Then the produce dept next to the deli has more skinny people.

It's funny the hot bar or aka slop bar. Seems it gives you the sh*ts all that grease and sodium. Coworkers eat it and they end up getting the sh*ts from it. I never eat that crap.

I used to work at Publix too. But around here in my area, most people are in fairly good physical shape for their age. Not a lot of obese people (but they are certainly around).

I don't work there anymore but still like their deli/hot bar/sub station. I usually get the chicken strip dinner with two sides - both mac & cheese. I also go to the salad bar and pick up a small container with field greens, feta cheese, mushrooms, green peppers, a couple of olives, grape tomatoes, and make my own tahini dressing at home.

And then - I split up that chicken dinner into two portions. One strip for dinner with one side of mac & cheese and that side salad. Then for lunch the next day I air-fry the rest of the chicken and nuke the other side of mac & cheese.

The same goes when I buy a sub. I load it up - with veggies. And eat half the sub for dinner and the other half for lunch the next day.

It's so disappointing how Publix deli (and most stores) have not evolved from fried chicken and subs...........it's really disgusting franken-food. It's almost like the food companies and supermarkets are deliberately trying to make us sick.......

But they have... I order from the Publix deli fairly often. I don't get fried chicken (maybe once or twice a year) and I don't care for bread and deli meat in general, so those are rare too.

My most recent order.

Here is another recent one:

A routine favorite of mine lately has been the summer rolls.

You know, no one is forcing anyone in the store to buy junk, right?

I guess it's a misnomer to when there's no state income tax. They'll find other ways to tax you. There are no free rides.

I just bought a new air fryer. So far cooked ribeye and chicken strips in it. The chicken strips came out outstanding. No greasy like Publix and much more healthier. The entire bag of Perdu chicken strips was $10 and will get 3 meals out of it. Much cheaper than buying publix chicken strips and potato wedges. And it only took like 15 mins total for the whole meal. Easier than waiting in line at Publix Deli for 10 mins then only 2 registers open.

Like I said in the 2nd post of this thread - the tax on gym membership isn't new. It's been around for -at least- the last 8 years, if not longer. It's just a sales tax. If they weren't giving the tax to the government, then they were cheating you, the person who uses the infrastructure, sends your kids to the public schools, uses the utilities that are sent through state property to get to your house, etc. etc. who suffers from the lack. You don't pay income tax in this state. You don't get much from your state revenues, but what little you do get, comes primarily from state sales tax, and tourism tax.
