This was us in 2008. What a mistake, I couldn't wait to get back home to Florida.

"If you make $200,000 or less, our area is changeling". What a crock.

WHAT?????? Clearly this article is "fake news"!!!!! Florida is paradise! The Freedom State!!!!!!!

My cost of living in Florida is almost NOTHING compared to those woke overtaxed liberal states!!!!!!!! Literally pennies!

Oh yeah, and Guv DeSantis! Best guv EVER! He has done SO MUCH for Floridians' pocketbooks!

you mean to tell me no one has ever moved out of Florida before?

get out.....

”some”....so what.....”some” people have always moved out of Florida

”U.S. Census Bureau numbers show between the years 2021 and 2022 that early 739,000 people moved to Florida and nearly 490,000 residents moved out”....net gain of ~1/4 million

same time frame.....”301,000 people moved to New York.....545,498 people moved out of New York”....a net loss of ~1/4 million......”Top destinations included Florida — the most popular choice”

-----
here's what "some" means....

population South Carolina 2019.........515,7702
population South Carolina 2022.........528,2634

South Carolina population increased "some" in 4 years......~ 125,000.....if they all moved from Florida no one would even miss them

...in that same time frame Florida's population increased ~ 3/4 million

====

and just for kicks and giggles.......Georgia's population is decreasing and has been decreasing since 1988

It said challenging, not changeling. But no not a crock. People wanting to raise their families, younger married folks with just one kid so far, or none yet but planning on having some soon - coming intentionally to live in South Florida (the area the agent was talking about), will find it a challenge to find a suitable home in a suitable neighborhood, with suitable public education and health care options, and suitable work opportunities. That's not even saying "good" homes in "good" neighborhoods, etc. But families with toddlers aren't going to WANT to come to South Florida, expecting to buy a home that needs full renovations, or significant repairs. They won't want to live in the slums or an old single-wide trailer park, of which there are many. They don't need to come to South Florida to get that and earn less than $200k/year. But if they want something suitable to raise a family - $200k will be a challenge.

Well, considering the average household income in WPB (the articles bi-line) is $82,600 there must be a disconnect between the article and reality. Maybe the younger married folk's first home shouldn't cost a million dollars.

And soon the South Carolinians will be complaining that the incoming Floridians ruined their area with increased traffic, increased taxes to pay for the needed infrastructure, and increased school taxes for the new schools that will need to be built.

When the costs become too high, the "hot" area will no longer be fashionable and the locusts will invade yet another area.

Repeat ad infinitum

Those of us who can afford Florida, & are still young & vibrant enough to care for ourselves, tend to stay.

Those who can't make it here financially, or are now too old to be totally independent, tend to leave.

Its Darwin's natural selection at work.

More come than leave by a wide margin.

SE Florida's the most expensive region...nobody's hiding that. Affluent Northeasterners continue to flock there.

9 out of the top 25 places people want to live are in Florida...more than any other state by far:

https://realestate.usnews.com/real-e...live-in-the-us

No place is perfect, but Florida's as close as it gets if you are healthy & affluent. The rest should look elsewhere....Florida's a bad place to be sick & poor.

Many of those people are retired - and have significant savings and investments. Many of them bought their homes when the prices were lower, thus reducing the income required to afford to live in it.

Young families just starting out don't have that luxury unless they've inherited it.
